Is it a Glorious Sunset? Or the Dawn of a Beautiful New Day? The answer depends upon where you're standing and which direction you're facing. You decide.

Where you stand and which direction you're facing are powerful metaphors for the perspectives and attitude with which we approach life.  We've all heard of the "glass half full vs glass half empty" concept.  The truth is, we all get to choose which perspective we adopt and which attitudes we appropriate as our own.  But sometimes an ongoing conversation with another person can help us keep taking steps toward the attitude and perspective we desire.

Faith-Based

Almost all of our professional training refers to research suggesting that it is the quality of the relationship developed between the client and the coach that is the strongest predictor of a positive outcome, rather than a specific method of coaching or therapy.  [1]  We think this adds up to trust.

This may be one of the most important reasons for choosing a faith-based counselor or coach.  You probably want to work with someone who understands what you believe from a Biblical perspective, who will pray with you and believe in the power of prayer; a faith-based practitioner.  Do you look to scripture to guide your decisions, it is likely you may feel you are better understood by a faith-based counselor.  Faith-based counseling can provide the cultural and language connection that you are already comfortable with.

We integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution Focused Brief Therapy perspectives and Solution Focused Coaching into the faith-basis our clients already understand and believe in.

“Studies show that people prefer counselors and coaches who share their own spiritual beliefs and support, rather than challenge, their faith.”2  Someone who shares your faith and who will work to link your faith with your mental and emotional health can help you set your life and career goals going forward.

Discipleship . . .

Coaches and counselors who work with The Banyan Group are geared primarily to work with people from a Christian background.  This doesn't mean we're not open to working with people from other faiths, or no faith at all.  And we would never use our position as counselor or coach to promote conversion to our faith.  Within the Christian system of beliefs, however, a strong tradition exists that propels people toward emotional, spiritual and social maturity.  Christian discipleship comprises learning spiritual disciplines that help the individual overcome difficulties they face, change the perspective on life and relationship to other people and produce a holistic, happy outlook on life.  Often what people need isn't counseling or therapy, but a new frame of reference through which to look at their own life situation.  We promote these disciplines and practices, helping our clients embrace them and learn them on their own, as a means to understanding and peace, which we all need more of.
